Mobil 1 Vs. Mobil Super (Which Is Better)

Mobil 1 is a global brand with a strong customer base and a comprehensive range of engine oils. Two of its most popular products are Mobil 1 and Mobil Super. In this review, we will explain the differences between both motor oils and determine which one is better.

So, keep reading till the end to know which oil is best suited for your car. Before we get into the details, here’s a spec comparison of both oils.

Is Mobil Super Good Oil?

It’s hard to decide a winner at the beginning of the review. However, according to the company’s website, it’s supposed to be the best oil your engine will ever taste.

They further claim that Mobil Super extends the life of your engine oil, keeps your engine walls covered, and improves fuel economy.

Is Mobil Super Fully Synthetic?

According to the official website, Mobil Super is fully synthetic, and using it is a better approach to increasing your engine’s life. The brand promises Mobil Super to be a superior choice over Mobil 1.

We’ll check the veracity of these claims by answering some important questions.

Is a High Mileage Oil Good For My Vehicle?

Despite the marketing claims, high mileage oils aren’t the best choice in our experience. High mileage oils tend to evaporate faster than normal oils in a hot climate.

If you live in colder regions, you might benefit from high mileage oils.

Both products by Mobil 1 are excellent for their respective purposes. These oils are fully synthetic and protect your engine from wear and tear. As a result, they are the most popular choice among drivers worldwide. Both oils share some common features.

However, they shouldn’t be considered similar. They have several differences that make them best for their respective engines.

What Is Mobil 1?

Mobil 1 has been in the market for over a century, and it’s the most trusted brand among car owners who actively maintain their cars. It has a strong customer base because it has shown exceptional performance over the decades. Designed to deliver longer runs, the Mobil 1 can withstand 10,000 miles.

We’d recommend changing your oil before it hits 9,500 miles just to keep your engine in pristine condition.

Mobil 1 Benefits

  • Excellent performance in extreme cold and hot temperatures
  • It’s resistant to freezing
  • It evaporates slower than most oils
  • Better lubrication than most oils
  • It doesn’t harm the engine as much as other oils

Mobil 1 Experience

We tested the Mobil 1 under extreme temperatures to see if it would freeze, but the oil held its fluidity. Moreover, we placed the oil in a test tube and tested it against other brands to see if it’ll have its fluidity after surviving cold temperatures.

To our surprise, Mobil 1 was the first oil to slide through the test tube and flow on the PVC pipe to the finish line. Finally, we tested the lubrication of Mobil 1 by filling a cup and running a rotatory device for 1 hour.

After the test, the bearing lost only 0.12 grams from its original weight. This result is great considering the bearing lost considerable weight when we did the test using other oils.

What Is Mobil Super?

The Mobil Super is the prime choice for cars with more than 75,000 mileage, but you can try it in your vehicle if you are satisfied with its performance. The Mobil Super combines synthetic and traditional oil to prolong your engine’s life.

It has a 5W 30 rating which means the oil can survive temperatures as low as 5 degrees and high as 30.

Mobil Super Benefits

  • It can extend your car engine’s life
  • It has adhesives that reduce friction, allowing your engine to run smoothly
  • Guaranteed to cover 7500 miles, but we’d recommend a change when the meter hits 7200+
  • Guaranteed 5000 miles of engine protection
  • Protects your engine against sludge and wear

Mobil Super Experience

We weren’t disappointed with the Mobil Super, as the oil performed according to the company’s statements. Moreover, we did the same freezing test on this one, and the results were in Mobil Super’s favor. We ran the test against Mobil 1, after which we put Mobil Super to rest.

In our fluidity test, Mobil Super and Mobil 1 finished almost simultaneously. The gap was too short to choose a winner, so that was a tie in terms of lubrication. The Mobil 1 took the win as the bearing with Mobil Super lost more weight. Finally, when tested in an old car, Mobil Super performed much better than Mobil 1.

We can credit this performance to Mobil Super’s composition. Mobil Super isn’t fully synthetic and has a mixture of other elements. However, we didn’t expect Mobil 1 to win every round.

Verdict

Both engine oils performed exceptionally well on our test, each with their special characteristics. Both oils had almost the same results for fluidity, temperature resistance, and vapor. However, when we re-ran the tests, Mobil super took the crown.

Surely, Mobil has improved its formula in the new super variant, but we don’t think you’ll need to make an urgent switch. If the Mobil 1 works out for you, let it rest in your car. The information we shared above is to help you make an informed decision and keep your car in pristine condition.

We don’t aim to rank one oil over the other. We hope you can make the best choice for your car after reading this article!
